Can your Diet Kill you?

Here I just want to talk alittle about how the foods you eat everyday, from the fast food meals to the restaurant meals, are doing much more then making you fat or thin.  There effects on your body are making the difference between the developement of chronic disease and a energetic extended life!

They can prevent or reduce your risk of vision problems, stroke, heart disease, and a host of killers!  These are just not empty promises, they are facts which are supported by body of research.  Most scientist in the world today agree that at least 30% of all cancers are directly related to nutrition.

People who eat more fruits and vegetables are half as likely to develope cancer as those who eat the least amount of these foods.

Cancer is not the only culprit here related to nutrition, about half of all cardiovascular disease and a percentage of hypertension cases are traced to diets!

**********************************************************************************
Scary:  It has been estimated that 300,000 to 800,000 preventable deaths per year in the united states are nutrion  related.  These include deaths from artheoclerotic disease, diabetes, and certain cancers.

**********************************************************************************
Here are some reason's why the above staement is so real:
  • Increased portion sizes ( supersize it please)
  • People just don't exercise enough ( couch potatoes)
  • Unhealthy balance of fat in their diet (saturated, omega6 fatty acids , trans fat with a huge drecrease in omega 3 fatty acids)
  • Processed cereals ( this is huge please read those lables especially when your feeding this to your kids)
  • Not eating enough fruits an vegetables
  • Not eating enough Fish and lean meat
  • Decrease in antioxidant intake and calcium (especially from wholefoods)
  • Too much sugar
Few people, even health professionals (yes them to) are unaware of the significant recent decline in our overall health status.  More than 125 million Americans have at least one chronic condition like diabetes, cancer, heart disease, glucoma.

The center for disease control estimates that one third of Americans who were born in 2000 WILL DEVELOPE DIABETES in their lifetime.

60 million Americans have more then one condition.  It's getting worse everyday!  In 1996, estimates were made projecting the rate of chronic disease in the future.  Then only 4 years later, in 2000, the number of people with chronic ailments was 20 MILLION HIGHER then what they predicted!  SCARY!! TRUE we need to really pay close attention to the foods we eat and our children eat.

2020 it is predicted that 1 quarter of the American population will be living with multiple chromic conditions, and estimated costs for managing these ailments will reach $1.07 trillion!!!!!

The most concerning and shocking is that the age of the chronically ill is declining!  Half of chronically ill Americans are under 45 and even worse 15 % of that number are children!

(which means middleaged will be in your 20's) Think about it!

It is so important to select the most nutritous foods for our chidren and us to eat.   Those foods are the most nutrient dense, low calorie, and make these foods the backbone of our daily diet.

If you have an overweight child, it is very important that you allow him or her to know that you will be supportive. Children's feelings about themselves often are based on their parents' feelings about them and if you accept your children at any weight, they will be more likely to feel good about themselves. It is also important to talk to your children about their weight, allowing them to share their concerns with you.
It is not recommended that parents set children apart because of their weight. Instead, parents should focus on gradually changing their family's physical activity and eating habits. By involving the entire family, everyone is taught healthful habits and the overweight child does not feel singled out.

I am one of these statistics already I have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis (a bone degenerating disease with no cure) only 2 years ago when I was under age 45, I wish I had known or someone talked to me more about nutrion and really made me understand how food effects us.  It's been a really tough battle trying to manage each and everyday.  Some days are good and then I get those bad days I just want to stop living.  Thats why this blog is so important to me.  If i can share this with you and it helps you to make better food choices for your family then I know It's been worth it!

Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.  ~Proverbs 27:1

  1. very informative and well written post. i have tried alot of diets too, sigh, some of us are just not born with fast metabolism, but realized, you don't need to be skinny nor bone thin to be beautiful, it's all in the mind. i'm still in diet mode to feel healthier and not overweight. :) what's important is that people eat the right food and avoid yo-yo dieting.
